Halloween Candy Drive to Support Deployed Troops and Local Heroes

Taking candy from children is usually frowned upon, but teaching them the value of giving back by donating their excess Halloween candy in support of Operation Gratitude’s Care Package Programs for U.S. Troops, Veterans and First Responders is a win-win for kids and parents.  This Halloween, our trick-or-treaters at Ocean Air will join kids across the country when they donate their extra Halloween candy to Operation Gratitude.

Collection bins for your excess candy will be set up in front of school on November 4 and 5, 2019 at morning drop off. Donated candy will be included, along with handwritten thank you letters, in care packages sent to U.S. Service Members deployed overseas, Veterans, and First Responders serving in their local communities. Our children will be working on the handwritten thank you letters in class.  Volunteers are needed to sort and pack donated candy.  Let’s help Operation Gratitude in their mission of saying “Thank You” to the heroes who serve.

Coat and Blanket Drive

Your gently used outerwear and blankets can be put to good use this winter! We are having a Coat & Blanket Collection Drive from Dec 11th to 13th 2019 to donate to homeless families in need. Items can be dropped off in collection bins outside school gates. All sizes needed and must be in good or gently used condition.
Donated items will be given to Alpha Project, an organization that serves over 4,000 homeless people daily by providing them with tools, work, and support they need to change their lives. For more information about Alpha Project, please visit their website: https://alphaproject.org/

Blankets for Project Linus!
We are excited to announce the opportunity for our students to make blankets for Project Linus.  Project Linus is a national organization that provides quality homemade blankets to children ages 0 to 18 who are terminally ill, in foster care, or in need.  The blankets our children make will be distributed in the San Diego North Costal region from Clairemont to Oceanside, including Camp Pendleton.  Students can join us in the MUR at lunch recess in January to lend a helping hand. No sign-up or blanket-making experience needed.

Please contact Suchita Jariwala  to volunteer or for any questions on the above programs.
