WHO: Planned by Ocean Air PTA in cooperation with and to benefit the American Heart Association
WHY: Jump Rope For Heart is a national education and fundraising event sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD). These events engage elementary and middle school students with jumping rope while empowering them to improve their own health and help other kids with heart-health issues.

Jump Rope For Heart Help Students Grow!

While encouraging community service, it is also an educational program, as the students learn how to develop heart-healthy habits while being physically active. By participating in this great program, the students learn the value of community service and become empowered to contribute to their community’s welfare and to help other kids with special hearts.

Finally, not only are you and your child supporting a great cause, but your donations to the AHA will earn money back for our school! Last year, the Ocean Air community’s generous donations directly benefitted the kids and OAS in the form of $400 in equipment for our P.E. Department!!

How can you and your child help?

Participate in Ocean Air’s Jump Rope for Heart on October 21, 2016 and fundraise for this worthy cause!

This year there are 2 ways to donate to the American Heart Association:

1) DONATE ONLINE – it’s even easier this year!! To make an online donation and/or to set up a donation page, please click on our school page: Click Here to Donate!
Students can earn prizes for their fundraising efforts!

Once on the Ocean Air School page, click on the “Join Team” button. You will be prompted to create a Username and Password and answer a security question. Click Continue. (Be sure your Username and Password are easy to remember.) Next, fill out the registration form. Review the Online Waiver and click the box to accept it. Once you are done, click the Continue button. A Share With Your Friends screen will pop up. Enter a message that you would like to share via social media and click on the program/s that you would like to use. Once you are done, click the Publish button. You’ll see a confirmation screen and a button you can click to enter your HeartQuarters and set up your child’s personal donation web page. Or, click the “X” in the upper right hand corner of the pop up box to skip this step.

2) RETURN YOU CASH/CHECK DONATION in the envelopes that will be in your child(ren)’s Wednesday folder on October 5, 2016. Please return the completed donation envelopes to the school office no later than Friday, October 21, 2016. Checks must be made payable to the “American Heart Association.” The dollars raised by Ocean Air Students are critical to the development of lifesaving research. The American Heart Association accepts donations of any amount! Individual prizes will be given out by the American Heart Association in recognition of your child’s fundraising efforts. Additionally, prizes will be given out to members of the two Ocean Air classes (one from K-3; one from 4-6) with the highest percentage of student fundraising participation.

Help make Red Ribbon Week a success by volunteering during this week. We will be needing volunteers to help with fun activities like Zumba, pledge chains, snack day during recess, and Jump Rope For Heart.
